From Yampa Valley to Colorado Sauce Company#
A new name opened up a bigger story for the business. As Yampa Valley Sauce Company evolved into Colorado Sauce Company, the task was to explain that broader identity while keeping its origins close. The Yampa Valley name still had a place: as a heritage line within the wider Colorado Sauce Company brand.
We developed website copy that made that relationship understandable, connecting the two names and giving the heritage line a clear role in the company’s next chapter. The story brought together its Colorado origins, small-batch products, and the experiences the sauces were made to be part of: food, memories, and gathering around a table.
That story gave the transition a thread we could carry through the rest of the work. From a label in someone’s hand to a product page on their phone, each part needed to express the updated brand while preserving the connection to where it began.
Bringing the new identity to every label#
The packaging was a central part of that change. We redesigned all of the product labels, emphasizing the updated branding and carrying Colorado Sauce Company’s identity across the range.
The labels gave the transition a physical presence. The new name needed to feel like it belonged to the products, with the Yampa Valley heritage line understood as part of the broader family. We approached the redesign as one connected range, bringing the brand story onto the products themselves.
With that direction established, we carried the same thinking into the place where customers could explore the range and buy it: a completely rebuilt website.
Rebuilding the website around ecommerce#
We moved the business off Wix and rebuilt its website on Shopify, creating a full ecommerce platform around Colorado Sauce Company’s products. The scope went beyond updating the look of the site. We brought together the brand’s story and the practical needs of an online store, including cases, offers, discounts, and customer accounts.
Those capabilities gave the business more ways to present and promote its products within the shopping experience. They also made the website an important part of the transition: a place where the new identity could be introduced alongside the products customers came to find.
We worked with Shopify’s Liquid templates and CSS to refine the site, including page-specific header styling and the way a transparent header interacted with the About Us page. That attention connected the broader rebuild to the details of individual pages, helping the storytelling and storefront sit together within the same design.
Giving each product its own considered page#
Within that storefront, we carefully designed each product page. The broader brand story established who Colorado Sauce Company was; the product pages brought the focus to what someone could bring home.
We treated those pages as a core part of the project. Each was an opportunity to carry the updated identity into the buying decision, connecting the product presentation with the surrounding store and promotional content.
That work also created a destination for the marketing beyond the website. An email could introduce a gift set, and a recipe could give someone a reason to try a sauce, with the product pages continuing the conversation.
Connecting the online experience to local shelves#
The website also needed to serve people who wanted to buy in person. We included a store locator
to help customers find retailers carrying Colorado Sauce Company products, connecting the online experience with the brand’s presence on store shelves.
Alongside the Shopify storefront, the locator gave visitors another way to take the next step. Someone discovering a sauce through the brand story or a product page could explore where to find it in person, making the website useful beyond an online purchase.
Keeping the conversation going through email#
With those paths to purchase in place, we set up email marketing flows and newsletter opt-ins to support an ongoing connection with customers. These gave the business a way to continue communicating beyond a single website visit and to bring its evolving story into the inbox.
We also developed promotional email copy for Black Friday around the company’s “Trophy Case” gift set. The messaging connected the set with seasonal gifting and its Colorado-made identity, giving the promotion a place in the wider brand story.
The name change had practical implications for email too. We helped work through how Colorado Sauce Company and Yampa Valley email addresses could coexist within the constraints of the existing setup. That transition support addressed the everyday communications behind the public-facing change.
Turning recipe inspiration into product discovery#
Alongside the store and email work, we created SEO-optimized recipe pages featuring the company’s products. The aim was to connect the sauces with something useful: ideas for what to cook and how to bring them to the table.
These pages gave the products context beyond the catalog. Someone exploring a recipe could encounter a sauce through the meal it helped create, with the content designed to support product discovery and encourage a purchase. Search optimization was part of that work, helping shape the recipes as an additional route into the website.
The recipes also brought the project back to the story at its heart. Food, memories, and gathering together became subjects the brand could explore through practical content, extending the identity into the experience of using the products.
One transition, carried through the whole experience#
Our work brought the move from Yampa Valley Sauce Company to Colorado Sauce Company into the places customers would encounter it: the labels, the brand story, the Shopify storefront, the product pages, the store locator, and the emails and recipes that invited them back.
The result was a connected body of brand, design, content, and technical work supporting a real business change. Colorado Sauce Company had an updated identity and a rebuilt ecommerce platform to carry its next chapter, with its Yampa Valley roots still part of the story.
